Strictly goes Gangnam Style!

14th November 2016

Strictly goes Gangnam Style!
It was an important week on Strictly Come Dancing, with a place at Blackpool up for grabs. The yearly one-off at Blackpool Tower takes place next week and it's the one that everyone wants to be part of.

But as always, someone has to fall agonisingly short.

Around The Dancefloor

Heading For The Exit

Making up the bottom two this week was Greg Rutherford and Daisy Lowe, both of which had received 31 points from the judges the night before.

Daisy and partner Aljaz had performed the Salsa and got mixed reception from the judges. Whilst impressed with the performance, there were a few minor errors that prevented it being scored higher. Craig in particular picked out the footwork, which he described as “a bit haphazard”.

They were up against Greg and Natalie dancing the Paso Doble. Greg self-admitted he had messed up and Craig once again picked up the same. “There was an air of panic. It made it appear a bit stiff”. So it was no surprise to the pair that they were in the bottom two.

However, they turned things around for the dance-off. Greg and Natalie delivered a polished and technically astute Paso Doble to get saved by the judges. Bruno gave his vote to Daisy, but Darcy, Craig and Len all voted to save the Team GB Olympian.

Going for the Glitterball

Topping the leaderboard this week with 38 points were the shows final act, Danny Mac and Oti Mabuse. Danny was an early pace-setter in the competition, but has since faced stiff competition. However in the last two weeks, he's really stepped up again and has topped the leaderboard. He's the first male celebrity to attempt the Argentine Tango, and the judges loved it. “I was just swept away, I absolutely loved it.”

Just a point behind were Louise Thompson & Kevin Clifton. Despite a few weeks floating around the middle of the table, the pair have also picked up in recent weeks. She has taken over Ore's mantle as being Danny's closest challenger and is almost nailed on for a spot in the final if she keeps up this level of performance.

Best of the rest

It was another good performance by Claudia and AJ, as they finished one point behind Louise. The pair danced the Viennese Waltz and it was very positively reviewed by the judges. “I really and truly loved it. Gorgeous!” said Craig.

But the real star of the show was once again... Ed Balls! Ed and his partner Katya performed a Salsa to Korean Pop hit “Gangnam Style” and it left everyone, including the judges, speechless.

“That will go down in Strictly history” claimed Darcy, while Bruno called it “the best, worst dance I've ever seen”. Len on the other hand said “I don't think there's words in the dictionary to describe it.”

Social media went crazy for Ed afterwards, including comedian Jack Whitehall who said “Hi, I'm Ed Balls and I'm here to save 2016!”
