Strictly Come Dancing 2016 Week Six: A Halloween Spooktacular

31st October 2016

Strictly Come Dancing 2016 Week Six: A Halloween Spooktacular
It was a fright-filled night on Strictly this week as Halloween rolled into the Ballroom! With the makeup and costume department working in over-drive, it was a magical night filled with shocks across the leaderboard.

Around the Dancefloor

Heading For The Exit

Finding themselves at the foot of the leaderboard this week were Anastacia and Brendan. Brendan returned this week after he was replaced by Gorka due to illness last week. Although he might of wished he didn't, as the pair struggled their way to a score of 25. Their jive failed to get the judges excited and it left them rock bottom of the leaderboard for the first time in the series.

Finding themselves in the dance-off for the second week running were Aljaz and Daisy Lowe. Once again, the pair scored well with the judges, recording their highest score of the series so far with 33. “I loved the amount of detail you put into it” said Bruno as he awarded the pair a 9. So it was a surprise to see Daisy in the bottom two once again.

Following the dance-off it was Anastacia that was sent home unanimously by the judges. The American singer has had a turbulent ride throughout Strictly. Her early injury, Brendan's illness and an apparent lack of chemistry between the pair made for an inconsistent ride through the series.

Going For Glitterball

There were big hiccups for the favourites Ore Oduba and Danny Mac this week which left them adrift, meaning the top spot was up for grabs.

Two different pairs grabbed it with both hands as the women led the way this week! Returning from injury was Laura Whitmore and she joined partner Giovanni and delivered a sharp tango that the judges loved. “The attack, the focus, the determination, I think your best dance” said Darcy. The pair were awarded straight 9's, 36 points.

Joining them on 36 were the shows youngest pairing Claudia and AJ. The gymnast delivered a “beautifully smooth” American Smooth to reach the peak of the leaderboard. The pair have been slowly improving each week and after two fantastic scores in a row are really in the mix at the top.

Best of the rest

Elsewhere, Ed Balls was finally off the bottom of the leaderboard! His cha-cha finally sealed some judge approval as they finished with 26 points, their highest score yet. “Halloween is all about the supernatural. It wasn't that super and it wasn't that natural, but it's your best dance!”.

It was another bad week for Greg Rutherford and Natalie Lowe, after Natalie was reduced to tears by the comments of Craig. “Natalie, I felt like you were protecting Greg with this dance. I don't feel I can judge this dance as a Rumba”. The Australian dancer felt like she'd let her partner down, although the other judges were not quite in agreement, marking them much more generously.

Judge Rinder also delivered his best score of the series, getting 32 for his Paso Doble, while Louise and Kevin were as consistent as ever. They were awarded 35 for their Suicide Squad themed Charleston.
