Dance TV Shows, Films, and Radio Programmes this Christmas
Strictly Come Dancing ended last week, but the show must go on! Over the holidays there will be a whole host of things on to help you get your dancing fix!Tune in to the Strictly Christmas Special, or watch the stars in TV Shows exploring the power of dance. Darcy Bussell celebrates the enduring legacy of classic Hollywood dance musicals, Bruno Tonioli delves into the success of Saturday Night Fever, and Russell Grant heralds the New Year with a Strictly-themed extravaganza, reliving favourite moments from the TV show.

But it's not all Strictly ballroom! Ballet gets a look-in with screenings of Matthew Bourne’s Swan Lake, Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, The Royal Ballet, and the BalletBoyz follow a company starting out on their UK tour. Radio is getting in on the act too, with Ballet Goes to the Music Hall.

Thur 22 Dec, Matthew Bourne’s Swan Lake, Sky Arts 2 - New Adventures' witty and beautifully disturbing version of the Prince's dark spiral into derangement, danced by a menacing male ballet corps.

Fri 23 Dec, Sky Arts 1 - Cirque du Soleil - Two programmes about the world-famous Canadian artistic circus - a backstage 13-part series, Fire Within, launches, and a film of their production Alegria.

Friday 23 Dec, BBC 2, 9pm - Saturday Night Fever - The Ultimate Disco Movie, with Bruno Tonioli. This documentary celebrates the fortieth anniversary of the 1977 blockbuster dance movie, and sees Strictly Come Dancing's Bruno, who was a young dancer in New York in 1977, walk us through the steps that made the movie legendary.

He also revisits the streets of New York where the film was shot and looks back at the success of a film that gave everyone disco fever.

Travolta, Gibb and other members of the cast and crew give gripping accounts of supreme success against a backdrop of setbacks and unexpected twists and turns. Bruno unpacks the skill, athleticism and dedication of Travolta, whose incandescent performance prompted a disco dance craze.

Christmas Day, BBC 2 12.15pm - Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland - The Royal Ballet. A full-length ballet created by choreographer Christopher Wheeldon for the Royal Ballet at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, based on Lewis Carroll's famous story of Alice, an ordinary girl who one summer afternoon falls down a rabbit hole and finds herself on an extraordinary adventure. With Simon Russell-Beale in the cameo role of the Duchess.

Christmas Day BBC1 – 6:30pm – Strictly Christmas Special - Six favourite stars of Strictly past return to the ballroom to compete for the Christmas trophy. Robbie Savage, Katie Derham, Jeremy Vine, Kimberley Walsh, Judy Murray and Colin Jackson and their professional partners each perform a routine inspired by what they love most about Christmas.

Christmas Day, BBC 2 6.30pm - Darcey Bussell Dances Hollywood - one of Britain’s greatest ballerinas steps into the shoes of her Hollywood heroes to celebrate the enduring legacy of classic dance musicals, taking famous dance routines from her favourite Hollywood musicals, with conductor John Wilson.

Christmas Day, More4 11.05pm - BalletBoyz: Next Generation - Filmed over two years, this observation al documentary by William Trevitt and Michael Nunn, aka the BalletBoyz, follows their campaign to form a new male dance company from first auditions, through bootcamp, training and creating work, to their UK tour.

Christmas Day on More4, 9pm, Matthew Bourne's Christmas - This new Christmas ballet film, conceived by Matthew Bourne, combines projections, animation and an intimate shooting style to produce a distinctive new way of presenting dance on screen.

Fri 30 Dec, BBC Radio 2 Strictly New Year, 10pm-midnight - Russell Grant heralds the New Year with a Strictly-themed extravaganza, reliving favourite moments from the TV show.

Sat 31 Dec, BBC Radio Ballet Goes to the Music Hall, 3, 12.15pm - Music feature.
